In November each year the nine BSA units in Carbondale join together for participation in the annual Boy Scouts of America Scouting for Food food drive and collect food items. Items are distributed to the Good Samaritan food pantry ran by the Interfaith Council in Carbondale (http://www.cdaleinterfaith.org) and the Community Cupboard ran by Praise Central Church of Deliverance (http://www.feedingillinois.org/need/search.php?county=Jackson).
The Kaskaskia District of the Greater St. Louis Area Council collects over 35,000 food items each year. The items are distributed to 20 food pantries in the 6 southernmost western counties in Illinois -- Perry, Jackson, Johnson, Alexander, Union and Pulaski.
